Interactive species distribution modeling for marine data

An R Shiny app to fit models and visualize results

Welcome to GLOSSA

GLOSSA is an open-source R Shiny application for modeling marine species distributions using presence/(pseudo-)absence data and environmental predictors. It is designed to lower technical barriers and make SDM analyses accessible through an interactive interface. GLOSSA guides users through a streamlined SDM workflow, from data upload and preprocessing to model fitting, evaluation, and result exploration.

  • Graphical user interface: An intuitive interface for fitting SDMs.
  • Flexible modeling: Fit Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART) to estimate species-environment relationships.
  • Support for multiple species: Run and compare separate models within the same session.
  • Support for forecasting: Project distributions across time periods or climate scenarios.
  • Uncertainty estimation: Summarize posterior predictions with point and interval estimates.
  • Model evaluation: Evaluate performance using cross-validation, including spatial blocks and temporal splits.
  • Reproducible outputs: Export all results alongside a configuration file to ensure reproducibility.
